The BNO is responsible for the distribution board’s installation and cables between that and the individual properties.
A Building Network Operator (BNO) is defined as “an organization that owns or operates the electricity distribution network within a multiple occupancy building between the intake position and the customer installation”.
The services that a BNO provides range from providing and wiring of CTs (Current Transformers) to energisation of the first point of isolation on LV systems.
They install CT cabinets and are also fully licensed Meter Operators. Their particular set of skills eliminates the complexities of having to manage multiple suppliers who may have conflicting availability.
With the help of a BNO, it is achievable to converge the connection and energisation activities into just one day. They can provide and install the CT Chamber, connect and commission your CTs in line with Elexon P283 requirements and install your meters on the same day.
Arranging a BNO through The Energy Desk can remove weeks from your connection and energisation timetable.
This will impact many new build and renovation projects of flats, office buildings and any other buildings that share a common intake service.
The Distribution Network Operator will not be responsible for the risers and laterals to multi-occupied buildings. The electrical contractor will need to install their own electrical connections within any building.
Challenging areas can be the installation and wiring of CT Panels and the P283 commission test that is required by both the Energy Supplier and the Meter Operator.
Connection and secondary wiring of CTs and incorrect tail size can lead to delays in meters being installed, a delay in the energisation of the building by the Meter Operator/Distribution Network Operator and can impact the whole project.
The Meter Operator will install the meters and connect tails upon installation and complete secondary wiring of the CTs in the panel on the same visit.Below are the space requirements for the installed CT panel.
In order to be as efficient as possible and to complete the installation on the first visit we would advise that there is adequate space and suitable tails that have been provided by the site electrician.
Below is a table to assist in the correct sizing of the tails.
Our partners offer a standard time of ten working days for BNO panel installation and Meter Operator services. However, we understand that projects can change at a moment’s notice so we do offer flexibility for short notice appointments.
