As of May 7th, UK organisations can apply for a share of up to £30 million to develop design proposals for smart local energy systems.
Large businesses and organisations massively contribute to the amount of carbon emissions emitted into the environment. In order to reduce this, the government have launched the project which will make the best use of innovative technologies including cheaper renewables, energy storage, low carbon heat and digital infrastructure.
What is a smart energy system?
A smart energy system combines electricity, heating, cooling, industry, buildings and transportation, allowing for achievable and affordable renewable and sustainable energy solutions.
The large-scale use of sustainable energy and the optimal use of different energy sources is intended to create a future built on digital, data-driven smart systems, with flexible access to energy for everyone.
Benefits of a Smart Energy System
A smart energy system will deliver cheaper and greener energy, transforming the way society interacts with the grid.
The projects will provide many benefits, including:
- Integrating new energy technologies that are replicable and scalable
- Lower energy system costs and emissions
- Create economic benefits across the UK
- Develop finance and investment models for the deployment of low carbon technologies
UK organisations of any size can apply, with applications closing in August. Visit the GOV.uk website to find out how.
